Finishing Touch Personal Hair Remover - Product Review

"As Seen on TV" products present gadgets designed to solve a common problem, and get your money.  When I first saw the Finishing Touch Personal Hair Remover, it was... you guessed it... on TV.

The commercial is enticing, and I actually stopped my channel surfing to watch the entire ad. This pen shaped hair trimmer looked very easy to use, and they claim this small device will instantly remove unwanted hair from "problem" areas including your chin, ankles, feet and bikini line -- pain free. I am female and unwanted hair anywhere is very annoying.

Since I have light colored hairs on my upper lip that really show up when I have a tan, this looked like something I could use this summer. While I didn't decide to buy it when I saw the TV commercial, I coincidentally saw it in a drugstore the next day, and purchased it. The AAA battery required is not included and must be purchased separately.

After taking the hair trimmer home, I decided to write a review about it here after trying it out, because there are many inquiries about "As Seen on TV" products, particularly this one.

The micro-trimmer comes in plastic packaging, the type you have to cut up to get the product out. Inside was the sleek Finishing Touch Personal Hair Remover, a comb attachment, a cleaning brush and instructions.

While reading the instructions, I thought it was odd that it described how to insert the AAA battery after the directions for use. When I pondered on this, it is definitely a way to get a customer to read the usage instructions before attempting to actually use the trimmer.

The instructions advise you to trim in the direction of your hair growth, and try it out on your arm or leg to see if you have any sensitivity. I went straight to my arm and did just that. I have a very smooth hair-free area on my arm as a result.

Now for the test to see if this solves the problem that led me to buy this product in the first place. I took the trimmer above my upper lip and while it did remove the hair, it took a few more swipes than I thought it would. After going against my hair growth, which is not advised, I had a very smooth upper lip area with absolutely no hair.

For the bikini line, the Personal Touch slim design makes it very easy to maneuver around curves and is very effective. So I give it an A so far...

I was very reluctant to use the comb attachment on my eyebrows. I first tried the long end of the attachment and it didn't trim one hair, so then I tried it on the short side. Still, no trimmed hairs. While I didn't think my eyebrows needed trimming to begin with, the comb attachment would be better fit for some very thick brows, however it can be used anywhere you see fit.

Do I think this trimmer would be useful to a man? Maybe just for the eyebrows and a few other places where there is a light growth of unwanted hair. For the beard and moustache, I would advise men to keep using their manual and electric razors. Coarse hairs are what those razors are designed for. The Finishing Touch has a very small blade and, in my opinion, is better for finer hair projects.

Overall, I think the Finishing Touch Hair Remover lived up to it's promise. It removed the hair, pain-free. I know I won't use the comb attachment at all, but it's well worth the money to me, even without it. While I don't think it would be practical for the legs or the underarm area, it does remove unwanted hair from sensitive areas. With the low price tag and slim design, this trimmer can travel with you anywhere.
