Perlabella™ Retinol Anti-Aging Face Review

I was excited to hear when Perlabella™ by Equilibra® (Italy) came out with PureDose Pearls filled with anti-wrinkle serum containing retinol. I hadn't used retinol in the past but was beginning to see some issues with my skin and realized that I needed to try something soon.

The main problems I had were:

  • fine lines appearing around eyes and mouth
  • Three brown spots that were barely noticeable with makeup, one on each cheek and one smack on the middle of my nose
  • larger pores
  • Forehead creases

This all sounds bad but I think I am fortunate. I have had great skin all of my life and have received many compliments. I do my beauty regimen and apply makeup under some very bright lights, so I can see every line and blemish. I've been spoiled and it's disconcerting to see flaws popping up. Still, that's life and I am just going through what everyone else does when they get older and begin to see sun damage. Now, on with the review.

I began using Perlabella Retinol Pearls in February when the company sent me the product to try. The package was 28 count, with each capsule containing a single use dosage. The instructions on the box advise you to twist the tip off of the capsule, apply the product to a clean face every evening, massage in, and avoid direct contact with eyes. You can also apply your regular moisturizer afterwards. Obviously, if you follow the directions, the pearl capsules would last nearly a month.

My skin is dry and sensitive. I was concerned about using something new and about beginning the regimen in a winter month when the indoor air is very dry. I didn't want to wait though because I heard that retinol can irritate your skin if you combine it with sun exposure. Spring was just around the corner and I had many outdoor activities planned.

The product goes on smooth and feels great. The clear serum is difficult to describe. It feels a little oily when applying it but feels dry after it's on. After using it for about a week, my skin was getting irritated and so I made an adjustment (although it's advised to quit using if you experience irritation). I began using it about four times a week and that worked well. I also used a basic moisturizer on the days that I didn't use Perlabella retinol. The pearl capsules have a generous amount so I was able to apply the product to my upper chest area as well.

I didn't notice much difference (besides reduced irritation) for about two weeks, then changes began. I was pretty impressed. My skin was different. My first thought was that it was smooth and my skin tone was even. My pores shrunk and I had better color. At that time, I noticed no change in my lines or spots. I was patient though. I knew that I had to use the entire contents to give myself and the product a fair chance on my other flaws.

It was after about 3 1/2 weeks that I realized that it was working on my spots. They were getting lighter but not gone. I continued use until the product was gone. It lasted about 7-8 weeks since I reduced the frequency due to my sensitive skin. Now, I am going to address my problems listed at the beginning of the review and my opinion on the results.

My fine lines were reduced, the faint ones gone, other ones still there but not as noticeable. Of the three brown spots, one is completely gone, the worst one reduced in size and is a lighter color. The one on my nose, barely there. My pores experienced the first changes and had the best results. They look great. My forehead creases have smoothed considerably. Keep in mind that the fine lines around my eyes were minimally treated because you're not supposed to get the serum in your eyes, so I was careful. Perlabella has Retinol Eyes that I may use when I feel I really need it.

Overall, I'm very pleased Perlabella Retinol Anti-Aging Face and will definitely use it again at the end of the summer for maintenance and I think that it will make more improvements along the way. (I may just keep using it on my forehead throughout summer). They call this the beauty secret from Italy and I'm glad I tried it. Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A and promotes a high cell turnover. This product can be found OTC (over the counter) at Walgreen's or Amazon.com for about $20. Very affordable.
