First Signs of Weight Loss

Many people strive to lose weight but instead, lose motivation when the scale doesn’t budge quickly enough. This often causes a vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting and loss of self-confidence. But what if you really were making progress? What if you were getting healthier and were soon to lose weight?

One thing that helps is to realize that the majority of the time, weight loss is not linear. You will not consistently lose, lose, lose, without some gain back; weight fluctuates as does weight loss. Most people lose and gain every day. It’s the bottom number every week that counts.

Depending on your personal statistics, you can expect several signs of weight loss as part of your progress. They’re all not so obvious, so recognizing them will keep you motivated to stick with your diet and exercise plan.

Thinner Face

You may not notice but others will. Your face will appear thinner. Your cheekbones will be more defined. You will see more shadows and less pouf. Take a close look in the mirror and see for yourself. This may be noticeable with as little as a 5 lb.loss.

Loose Skin

Loose skin is to be expected. You may also find ripples, dimples and stretch marks in several areas such as your belly, breasts, and thighs. We’re lucky that skin has an amazing ability to bounce back so expect it to tighten up as you continue losing weight.

Itchy Skin

Besides loose skin, you may notice itchy skin first. Skin can itch intensely as it transitions to accommodate a different size. Lotion with cocoa butter will help it settle down and sooth the itch. Keep an eye on your skin and enjoy the changes!

Loose Clothing

The scale may not show much before your clothing gets loose and you get some breathing room. Loose clothing is an obvious, clear sign of progress but the scale doesn’t always reflect a significant weight loss. Measure yourself before you begin a diet and keep track of inches lost. You can still lose several inches before significant weight loss. If that’s the way your body loses weight, accept it and keep trying. It will be the only way to reach your goal.

Increased Mobility

You can’t see it but you sure can feel it. Bending, squatting, reaching, and stretching all become easier. You will notice that you can accomplish more in a day because you are mobile and willing to do more physical activity. More activity means you’re burning more calories. A win-win situation.
